Small Managed Services company in need of a candidate with expert technical skills that would both mesh with the team and help scale the services offered to clients. In addition to finding someone with the right technical skills and client-facing personality, this organization values culture fit and team dynamics, which resulted to some level of fear in finding on a candidate who ultimately would not work well with the rest of team. Compounding the anxiety surrounding this hire were previous bad culture fits that set back progress within the organization.
Solution
We established a process that highlighted and weighted soft skill requirements against the more technical skills. With this particular client, it was clear that the cultural fit would be the main criteria by which a candidate was hired—assuming the candidate had the prerequisite experience, of course. As such, when assessing the candidate, we made sure to take those aspects into account, gaining a full understanding of the work environment and process of our client, to help ensure a compatible fit. We also provided the client multiple points of contact with the candidate, ensuring rapport and alignment of goals, ensuring long-term success.
Results
The hired candidate ultimately had roughly 1.5 fewer years of experience than originally desired, but with solid foundational skills and experience, as well as a high capacity to learn and aligned career trajectory. Most importantly, he was a candidate that clicked well with the company’s team. This resulted in a great cultural fit that has allowed the company to help craft and expand goals based on the candidate’s strengths.
